    People Show Up

    NCC Saturday Morning

    NCC Saturday Morning

Saturday early morning rides originating from North Central Cyclery are sort of a regular occurrence, almost a DeKalb tradition.  Today was different because a bunch of people showed up.  We rode the trail to Sean’s in Sycamore for coffee.  Mellow ride, conversational and met some folks.

Short mileage to pick up a few groceries at Inbodens.  Be careful riding near or around NIU.

Cornfest Riders Get Ready To Depart

Beautiful day, maybe 125 participants, it’s hard to explain low turnout.  Still a great family time which gave everyone the opportunity to ride the bike path en force up to Sycamore.

Good times were had giving out t-shirts and doing quick fixes under the North Central Cyclery canopy.

    Trees down and a Civia

John and College streets in DeKalb

The sudden turn in weather was unexpected when I arrived at North Central Cyclery last night.  Craig helped get the Civia in the car before the first warning siren sounded.  The wall cloud traveling over the parking lot convinced us to head to the basement.  Tobie and Craig were good company as we discussed our hopes, dreams and what we like for lunch.  The warning siren shut down after 15 minutes only to be turned back on 5 minutes later.  Again down to the basement.  Approximately 40 minutes later it was over.

Monday night’s “high wind event” resulted tree damage and power outages in the DeKalb-Sycamore area. The trail was clear of large limbs (park district crews were out early) by the time I took the Civia for a ride to pick up a few groceries.  Loaded with one pannier on the right it is stable yet very maneuverable as I dodged small branches and debris.

Arriving at Jewel I found the bike rack blocked.  Typical for this location I asked why at the customer service desk.  Puzzled looks by the two employee’s and offer to let me park the Civia in the front of the store after I “threatened” to go to Shnuck’s.  Jewel positions their brand as “eco-friendly” according to the website.  Too bad it does not transalate in to adequate bike racks at a location burdened by high volume and limited parking.  What in the heck does “eco-friendly” mean anyways?
