Frisbee Golf Might Have to Wait

The water is receding and Taylor St. is open.  However the south part of the trail remains flooded. The section north of Route 38 in NIU is open.

    Non Event

I volunteered at work to help in the booth for the Elgin “Salsa Festival”.   Total rain out, the event the was cancelled.  By 10:15 AM the Fox River was already at it’s banks.

    Getting Out

MacQueen Forest Preserve is one of those places where one does not think of camping because it’s local. 20 miles out, north of Kirkland on Scout Rd., the ride is easy.  However if you want to spend a night away from home without a lot of pre-logistics it’s the place to go.

$4.00 a tent, restrooms but no shower factilities. Firewood is easy to find and can be purchased.

    Nice Weather

    Heading North on Nelson Road

    Heading North on Nelson Road

Met Aaron, Paul and Tobie at the shop. We usually make up the route depending upon wind direction. Today it was northwest so the ever popular Malta Rd. – Nelson Rd. – Mayfield Rd. route was the choice. Mayfield Rd. ends at First St. where a left turn is made which takes us to Grove Rd and then east to Brickville Rd.  Today, feeling squeezed for time, we went right and south to Coltonville Rd. Left on Coltonville to Route 23 (Sycamore Rd) into Sycamore for espresso at Sean’s. I don’t advise riding on Sycamore Rd. anytime of the day because of traffic volume.  Saturday’s it’s mellower. This also applies to Coltonville Rd. On the return route we took the Peace Rd. bike trail to Pleasant St., west to Seventh and south to the shop. 27.5 miles a great way to begin the day.

    Friday Morning

Tree Limb Across Trail In Prairie Park

Tree Limb Across Trail In Prairie Park

I measured 1.21 inches of precipitation, nowhere the 3 to 5 inches a few media outlets were predicting.  The Kishwaukee river only made it up to 3.75 feet.  It seemed like a lot last night but fortunately rather uneventful around here.  Though I did come across a tree limb on the trail near the bridge in Prairie Park.
