    Free Grits

Saturday Winter Weight Diner rides continues and yesterday the turnout was – Tobie.

Okay it was a Dekalb-Sycamore Trail redux as we travelled on a Surly Cross Check and Masi Soulville (with 29 inch wheels) into a rather cold north wind. Pretty good breakfast in the $5.00 – $6.00 range. And free grits. So no complaint.

Afterward ran some errands… the thing with cold weather riding is that it can improve with duration. No precipitation so I kept riding.

    Winter Weight Diner Ride

    page-st-diner

What is a “Weight Diner Ride”? An inducement for the unwary to ride in the cold on a Saturday morning. Posted the ride on the NCC Group board and the turnout was one. Tobie on his LHT (I went with the Cross Check). We came up with a meandering 17 mile route which attempted a westerly direction but was daunted by the strong wind.  So back into Sycamore we decided Page St. Diner was a worthy destination. When cold and hungry biscuits and gravy are the logical choice. Friendly service cold plate. I ate anyways while Tobie sent his back for reheat. Reheats are disappointing. The food was okay however I am willing to give Page St. Diner a second try.  me1

    Breakfast Ride

    november-044

Met Tobie at the shop a little after 7:00 AM.  Strong wind out of the southeast so we did Route 23, Gurler Rd, Crego, Keslinger Rd. back to Route 23.  We then decided to take a chance on the “4th Street Cafe” just south of Taylor St.  Breakfast specials at $4.49. Pretty good eats at a decent price. And the server was attentive. I’ll be back.
