    Truckers Rule

The Surly Long Haul Trucker was the frame which first got me into Surly 5 years ago.

Today mapping the trail I am reminded what a great ride it is. It is the benchmark of stability when carrying a load in the front and back. Go to the local farmer’s market and fill up your panniers. Try it out. You ask why map the trail? As far as I can tell it has not been mapped. Maybe it is on the Delorme V 8.0 software but it is not on V 7.0.

    Commute to Work

    ctw 070309 31

Time to sack up and ride to work. Friday is work casual. Last minute I decided to wear the Bicycle Fixation City Knickers 2.0. I really wanted to try them on a long ride. Temps in the low 60s I thought wool might be too warm but they felt great as the Bicycle Fixation people claim ,“Although the 100% wool gabardine fabric feels light, it is comfortable in temperatures ranging from the mid-twenties (over a baselayer) to nearly 100°F”.

Oh yeah I put the Carradice Super C on the OCRc3.

I needed the carrying capacity for a coffee thermos, grub, and a rain jacket. The Arkel underseat bag wasn’t cutting it. And I can’t help it – I like to carry a lot of stuff.

North on Route 23, right on Bethany Rd. left on Lovell Rd., right on State St. left on Henderson north to Middleton Rd. Middleton Ed. east across Kane County. Left on Chapman Rd., right on Ellithorpe to Plato Rd. East to Rippburger Rd. north into Plato Center. Then Russell Rd. to Plank Rd. East on Plank (be careful) to the Route 20 intersection. Continue on Coombs Rd. north to a shortcut through Burnidge Woods to Big Timber. Arrive the job site.
