Night Ride to Genoa

Why ride at night?  Finding time to break off a 40 – 50 mile ride during the week can be problematic.  Job, family, school leave only so much time in a day.  Ari found a workaround to this dilemma when the kids are asleep and the wife is studying.  He has been blogging about night riding for some time.  It piques my interest because weekday morning rides around here have become entirely ridiculous with traffic and road construction.  So last evening I decided to head out with Ari on a loop up to Genoa. We left at 8:30 PM. Light traffic northbound on Route 23.  It was an entirely different experience being on a road which typically I avoid riding on at all costs. On the return very little traffic. Route 23, Baseline Rd. to Pleasant Rd., Grove and then Brickville. I was able to ride 23 all the way through DeKalb. Drivers seem to respect poweful lighting systems, giving us more clearance and waiting at intersections to let us pass.  I suppose they have no idea what they are seeing so they play it extra cautious. B&M offer excellent lights which can be used with sidewall dynamos or a generator hub. Ari’s Lumotec and my Cyo IQ Plus offer more than ample lighting.  So if you try this please have the lumens.
