    Shabbona on Sunday

Lang Rd. (on the left side of the map north to south) is a lightly traveled road. Roads like this are becoming fewer east of town because of increased traffic from exurbanites looking for shortcuts to job sites.

Taylor\S. Malta Rd., Fairview Rd. west to Lang Rd. Lang Rd. south to Shabbona. Preserve Rd. east to University Rd. Left turn on University Rd. Gravel for an eighth of a mile.Continue north across Rt. 30  to Lee Rd. Right on Lee Rd to Rt. 23. Left turn on Rt. 23 and north into DeKalb.

    Wurst Outlier Shorts

I am quiet satisfied with my pair of Wurst Outlier shorts . A comfortable design for riding with subtle details like a cuff and watch pocket. The 4Season Fabic is light enough for hot weather. And the sopressata from Emily’s pork store was pretty decent too.

“IDOT is considering cuts to make some of its $76.4 million in recissions from the Illinois Transportation Enhancements Program. TE has helped hundreds of communities make their environments more safe, healthy and environmentally-friendly with bike and ped amenities.”

Gov. Quinn Signs Two Bike Bills

    1) League of Illinois Bicyclist’s bill creating permanent Share the Road license plates for Illinois.  Plate income would sustainably fund our statewide education campaigns for both motorists and bicyclists.  The plate design itself delivers the message, with a Share the Road sign and the phrase ”Same Rights, Same Rules”.

    2) Sen. Silverstein’s bill establishing penalties for motorists driving recklessly and unnecessarily close to, toward, or near a bicyclist.  Depending on whether serious injuries result, this will be either a Class A misdemeanor or Class 4 felony.

    Details are here.

    Riding to MacQueen Forest Preserve

Eight of us rode to the MacQueen camp site from the shop Saturday afternoon. It was a mellow ride with great company.

    Swedish Day’s Ride Washout

Swedish Day’s Ride has been around for 41 years. It’s a nice ride with an excellent route all over Kane County.  The forecast said thunderstorms after 1:00 PM. There was a large crowd maybe 350 riders. The ride started out fine partly cloudy, warm with a moderate wind. However the situation quickly changed.

    Seeking Cover

The main part of the storm lasted 45 minutes leaving about a half inch of rain. I resumed with riding only to be soaked by a downpour 15 minutes later.

Moving counter clockwise from bottom right.
    Ellithorpe Rd.
    Chapman Rd.
    Lawrence Rd.
    Engel Rd.
    Walker Rd.
    Allen Rd.
    Hampshire Forest Preserve
    Ketchum Rd.
    Kelley Rd.
    Widmayer Rd.
Big Timber Rd. back to Widmayer Rd.then to Allen Rd.
    Brier Hill Rd.
    Berner Rd.
    Romke Rd.
    Bahr  Rd.
    Tower Rd.
    back to Central High School

    Berner Rd. meets Romke Rd.

Only road 35 miles out of the intended 62 miles because of an impending second line of storms which never materialized.  Though I did get to experience Kane Co. on roads I haven’t been on in awhile and it has me thinking about a route between Hampshire and DeKalb. Perhaps Hampshire to Woodstock. And then Lake Geneva. Check back later in the week.
